What if we could hold both, instead of either -or?

Black or white… or maybe both, or an entire spectrum of colour?
This time of year is often described as “the most wonderful.” ✨
And it can be joyful, cosy, connecting.
But it can also be dark, stressful, irritating. Sometimes all before lunch.
We often ping-pong between these states, fighting to cling to what we label as the positive emotions while pushing away the ones we would rather not feel.
Yet irritation, grief, overwhelm… they are not misbehaving guests. They belong too and send their own messages.
What if being annoyed at Uncle Bert is simply part of the season?
Just as much as the warmth of coming together, the familiar rituals, the moments of genuine delight. 🎄
What if even the yearly squabbles carry something steadying, almost comforting?
Instead of trying to delete or repress the difficult feelings, what if we held them alongside the good ones?
What if we let frustration and connection sit at the same table?
Grief and joy.
Irritation and love.
If, even for a moment, we allowed ourselves to think in colours 🎨 instead of black or white or even shades of grey, what might open up?
What might have more space?
What could soften?
There is richness in the spectrum between the extremes.
A quieter space worth exploring, especially now as the year turns and we gather.
Can we hold both?
Maybe that is where the real warmth begins.
